Rooted in Tradition is Roisin’s graduate textile collection designed for interior applications. It combines traditional printing techniques with layered design processes to explore Irish linen as both a sustainable material and a culturally significant textile. The collection responds to themes of rural life and heritage through a refined, process-driven approach to print.
Each design begins with visual research centred on her rural upbringing and family farm. Motifs are developed through observational drawing and painted paper collages. The collection contains a mix of hand-printed and digital fabrics. The printed outcomes are realised through the use of Procion MX fibre-reactive dyes. These dyes preserve the handle, drape, and breathability of the linen while delivering rich, layered colour. The process requires careful colour separation, registration, and layering — methods refined through extensive sampling and technical experimentation.
Rooted in Tradition seeks to bridge past and present — placing historical materials and processes within a modern design framework. It offers a materially sensitive, functionally considered response to interior textile design, combining cultural storytelling with commercial viability.
