Miscellany, the graduate collection of textile artist Alma Conway, explores the intersection of fashion and materiality through an intuitive, process-driven approach to printmaking. Designed for fashion fabrics, the collection foregrounds texture and surface as expressive elements.

Rooted in the philosophy of Wabi Sabi and inspired by the words of Japanese textile visionary Junichi Arai, “What use is high technology if we do not know the soul of the craft”. Conway’s work honours the tactile ritual of making. Her practice embraces analogue methods, valuing experimentation, tactility, and the physicality of process.

Techniques such as shibori, devoré, discharge, monoprinting, pleating, and crimping are employed not simply as decorative effects but as structural interventions that actively shape the fabric. Working with Procion and acid dyes on carefully selected blended textiles, Conway manipulates materials through soaking, binding, folding, layering, and cross-dyeing. The result is a collection of richly textured surfaces that balance intentional design with spontaneous, organic variation.

Miscellany brings together diverse techniques and materials, embracing imperfection as an essential part of the creative process.
